  1. Tested the piece for lead with this lead paint kit

  2. Sanded the entire piece with 80 grit sandpaper

  3. Removed failing veneer from almost the entire piece

  4. Sanded again with 120 grit sandpaper and then 180 grit sandpaper

  5. Wiped clean with soap and water

  6. Filled extremely damaged areas with Bondo Filler

  7. Filled the grain and less damaged areas with Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty

  8. Applied three coats of Zinsser oil-based primer, sanding with 400 grit sandpaper in between each coat

  9. Applied three coats of Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Paint in “Caviar” with a satin finish, sanding with 400 grit sandpaper in between each coat

  10. Applied three coats of Minwax Polycrylic in clear satin, sanding with 400 grit sandpaper in between each coat

  11. Replaced the cabinet door hinges

  12. Lined all drawers and the bottom of the cabinet in peel-and-stick wallpaper

  13. Added new antique bronze 3/4 inch knobs
